Negotiations going well in Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT - Negotiations between the Bridgeport Exempted Village School District and its two unions have ended with good news for both sides.

During a special board of education meeting Thursday afternoon, the five-member panel approved three-year contracts for the Bridgeport Education Association (BEA) and the Bridgeport Association of Classified Employees (BACE).

"I think it's always nice to get contracts out of the way," Superintendent Ted Downing said Friday morning. We tried to do the best we could without knowing for sure what the district's finances will be with the new state formula and potential casino monies.

"With finances now, it's a year-to-year thing," he continued. "The biggest concern was the language in the teacher's contract because of the state-mandated teacher evaluation tool for the 2012-14 school year.

"However, we got the language worked out," he added.
