As a life-long resident of the city of Martins Ferry, I would like to take this opportunity to write about one of the city's most pleasurable long-time business establishments, namely the Dairy Queen Restaurant located at 1220 South Zane Highway, Martins Ferry.
For nearly 60 years the Dairy Queen in Martins Ferry has been a very popular destination for those seeking nourishment and refreshment from a wide variety of "tasty treats" available on their impressive menu.
Kathy Wallace, owner/manager of the Dairy Queen assumed her current position of leadership with the establishment in1973, but her career with the Dairy Queen actually began in 1967, marking this as her 45th year with the company, and is greatly responsible for its continuing success.
During its many years of operation, the aforementioned establishment has witnessed numerous changes to the area that have impacted business including: the relocation of State Route 7 to its current location, the population loss over the years of the city, the downsizing and closing of many manufacturing and other establishments, etc. have posed challenges, which have been successfully met, by the business.
The local Dairy Queen has also evolved over the years to help address such challenges as adding a drive-thru and changing the menu items to help make the establishment be even more "customer friendly."
Dairy Queen blends a modern atmosphere with good old-fashioned quality and friendly service, and I am pleased to have been one of its many local customers for many years and hope to continue to patronize this wonderful business for many years to come.
For me, and many others, the yearly seasonal re-opening of the Martins Ferry Dairy Queen is a very special indication that Spring has returned to the Ohio Valley.
I wish Ms. Wallace and her staff at the Martins Ferry Dairy Queen much continued success in the years to come.
