ST. CLAIRSVILLE Preparations are under way for the upcoming November election. During a meeting Monday, board members noted that the Forest Hill Community Center in West Bellaire has been sold, but the owner will still allow it to be rented for a precinct site.
Also, upgrades have been completed at the Temperanceville District 108 site at St. Mary's Church. A parking pad and sidewalk to the foot bridge was installed as was a ramp conforming to Americans with Disabilities Act standards. The ADA coordinator said the state could pay for $1,000 of extra work.
In addition, the board is working on obtaining grants for parking pads and other improvements to five additional sites. The sites are being examined.
In addition, the project of mapping precincts from 1978 is continuing and nearing completion. The board will also examine the election administration plan.
New voter registration forms are also available. The forms are updated for greater legibility.
Also, board members will attend a summer conference in Akron today and June 28.
Board authorized the purchase of six wireless headsets at a cost of $350 each for better convenience counting votes.
Vouchers have been acquired at a cost of $8,283.62.
The state will send absentee forms out after Labor Day. Absentee forms can be obtained earlier on request and the elections board advises absentee voters to begin early. Absentee ballots from 2008 reached 14 thousand. Forms can be obtained at their office or their Web site at www.electionsonline.net/oh/belmont/
The next meetings are July 23, Aug. 20 and Sept. 17 at 1 p.m.
