ST. CLAIRSVILLE City council reviewed several matters of upkeep during a brief meeting Monday night.
Rich Miller, resident, spoke to council about the frequent fireworks displays that various groups have been scheduling and setting off during their events. He said the frequent loud noise has become an irritant and is causing his pets distress.
He added that other residents feel the same and asked that council consider this when approving fireworks proposals.
Members of council sympathized. Councilman Perry Jones noted that at least one event this past weekend was private and took place outside the city limits and jurisdiction.
Council approved an ordinance authorizing the mayor to renew the city's Natural Gas Government Aggregation Agreement with Volunteer Energy Services, Inc. as the city's designated natural gas supplier. The agreement included an amendment to the July 19, 2010 Government Aggregation Program Agreement. From Dec. 1, 2012 through Nov. 30, 2014 Volunteer Energy will deliver natural gas at a guaranteed price of seven percent off of Columbia Gas of Ohio's SCO Adder if possible. A fixed price may be negotiated anytime during the term with a 30-day notice to Volunteer Energy.
In other matters, Councilman John Bukmir reported that the roof of the police office may need to be cleaned. Also, the carpeting in a city building may need replacement.
Councilman Terry Pugh reported that paving is continuing on North Street.
Council received a request from the St. Clairsville Chamber of Commerce for a permit to serve alcohol to VIP ticket holders during their Aug. 21 pre-concert VIP event in conjunction with the St. Clairsville Department of Parks and Recreation Summer Concert Series. Council tabled the matter and will decide at a future meeting.
The next council meeting will be held July 2, 7:30 p.m., with a budget hearing immediately prior at 7 p.m.
