FRIZZI, Daniel Louis Sr., 85, of Bellaire, Ohio, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 in Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, W.Va.
Dan was born June 28, 1926 in Bellaire, Ohio, a son of the late Abramo and Philomena De Simone Frizzi.
A grocer by trade, Dan Joined his father in 1950 at the Frizzi & Son AG Food Center on Washington Street in Bellaire, and in 1969 opened Frizzi Market in West Bellaire. His avocation was stone work, leaving much of his handwork behind at home, Epworth Park and for Habitat for Humanity. A graduate of Bellaire High School in 1945, he loved the "Big Reds," and played football at Bellaire High School and after returning from World War II played one season at the University of Chattanooga. He was a member of the Neffs United Methodist Church and church choir; the Bellaire Elks as a Past Exalted Ruler; the Bellaire High School Alumni Association and Achievement Award recipient; the Epworth Park board and Cottage Owners Association; and sons of Italy Lodge #754. He served 30 years on the Bellaire Board of Education; served on the Belmont County Educational Service Center Board; and was dedicated to education for all children of the community. He was a World War II Navy veteran and served in the Pacific theater aboard the AO-35 U.S.S. Housatonic. He was a member of American Legion Post #52 and a founding member of the World War II Veterans of Washington Street and instrumental in establishing a monument for these veterans.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, was an infant daughter, Denise Frizzi; and a granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Frizzi.
Surviving is his devoted wife of 60 years, Nancy Ann Robinson Frizzi; five sons: Daniel L. (Penny) Frizzi Jr. of Bellaire, Richard A. "Dick" (Kim) Frizzi of Bellaire, David M. (Jody) Frizzi of Columbus, Douglas A. (Judy) Frizzi of Shadyside and Dean R. (Lisa) Frizzi of Bellaire; a sister, Kathryn (Phil) Regoli of Ocala, Fla.; aunts Adeline Raspa, formerly of Shadyside, and Bertha De Simone of Bellaire; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Albert and Sue Dean of Houston, Texas; nephews Steve Regoli, Gary Regoli and Rett Dean; niece Kathy Wilson; and 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at the Bauknecht-Alt- meyer Funeral Homes and Crematory, 441 37th St., Bellaire, Ohio.
Friends then received Monday June 25, 2012 from 10 a.m. until time of Service at 11 a.m. in the Neffs United Methodist Church on Belmont Street in Neffs, Ohio.
Interment will follow in Rock Hill Cemetery Bellaire, Ohio.
The Sons of Italy Lodge #754 will conduct services at 5:15 p.m. Sunday from the funeral home, and the Belmont County Council of the American Legion will conduct military honors immediately following at 5:30 p.m.
Because their husband and father served many years in support of public education, the family requests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers be made to the BHS Endowment Fund supporting his alma mater, Bellaire High School, PO Box 75, Bellaire, Ohio, 43906.
