ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Local authorities received reports of black bears being seen in Belmont County on Friday morning.
According to the Belmont County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, two bear sightings were reported Friday morning. One report was around Interstate 70 near Morristown and another report stated a bear was sited near the I-70 rest area near Mile Post 210, which is in the proximity of the Jamboree In The Hills site.
Officials from the Belmont County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol, as well as the local game warden, were alerted to these reports. However, officials investigated the area and found no sign of the bear.
According to an official from the sheriff's office, it is not uncommon for reports of bear sightings to be filed during certain times of the year.
