A FIRE, which occurred Wednesday night in Bellaire, was the second blaze that day in the village, but neither is considered suspicious, according to Neffs Fire Chief John Driscoll.
He said a representative from the state fire marshal's office was to be in the village today to investigate the cause of the Wednesday night fire at a duplex at 4293 Noble St. The blaze, which began around 8:19 p.m., was confined to a TV room or entertainment room on the second floor of the duplex.
Neffs firefighters were the only ones on the scene. The Shadyside Volunteer Fire Department also was answering the call, but was canceled while en route, according to Driscoll. Firefighters cleared the scene at 9:51 p.m.

This was the second of two fires that broke out Wednesday in Bellaire. Units from the Neffs Volunteer Fire Department responded to this fire that broke out at 4293 Noble St. around 8:19 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
Driscoll said the earlier fire in Bellaire Wednesday began around 3:42 a.m., and basically, it is believed to have been caused by a cigarette. Fire departments from Neffs, Martins Ferry and Shadyside responded to that blaze, which caused extensive damages to a two-story apartment building on 37th Street.
Occupants of the building, including two on the first floor and three on the second, were evacuated, and Driscoll said two Bellaire policemen helped one man to safety, and he was transported to the Ohio Valley Medical Center.
Driscoll said Lt. Bill Shallcross and Patrolman Kevin Yates got to the top of the steps to the second floor and rescued the man, who apparently was crawling under the smoke after the two other residents were evacuated from the second floor. The chief was not sure where the policemen found the man that they rescued, but added he may have been located in a doorway. The smoke was about 2 feet off the floor.
He said the man taken to the hospital was burned on the top of the head and the back.
