MARTINS FERRY - A charge of theft has been leveled at the wife of the city mayor.

Martins Ferry Police Chief John McFarland confirmed that his department investigated an incident at a concession stand ran by the Martins Ferry Civics and forwarded the report to the prosecutor.

Dan Fry, assistant prosecutor and law director for the city, confirmed that a report has been filed and an alleged theft charge has been made against Paula Riethmiller. He has asked Northern Court to appoint Tom Hampton, assistant prosecutor in Monroe County, as special prosecutor for the entire case.

Riethmiller has served as an umpire for sporting events in the area. Reps from the Martins Ferry Civics could not be reached for comment.
