The Ohio Valley Christian Soldiers are lining up another impressive list of special guest celebrities for next month's 8th Annual Jeffrey Showalter Memorial Golf Classic at Belmont Hills Country Club.
The Aug. 15 event is a major fundraiser for the Christian Soldiers, a charitable organization which has distributed thousands of dollars to local organizations and groups since its inception.
The Soldiers' annual golf outing was created to honor the late Jeff Showalter, son of OVCS board member Ted Showalter. Young Jeff was tragically killed in a Sept., 2004 auto accident.
"This golf outing continues to exceed our expectations," Ted Showalter stated. "The number of local organizations and individuals who support our cause is indeed inspiring."
The Showalter Memorial tees off at 11 a.m. Tee and green sponsors (at $100 per) are encouraged to support the event. Team entry fee is $500.
Following the event, a reception and dinner will be held. Those interested in attending the reception and dinner only may do so for $75.
Past celebrities who've attended the Showalter Classic include ex-Steelers Mel Blount, L.C. Greenwood, Robin Cole and Mike Merriweather.
Pittsburgh Pirates who are alumni of the Showalter event include: John Candelaria, Kent Tekulve, Jim Rooker, Grant Jackson and Rennie Stennett.
"We're looking forward to attracting another impressive celebrity guest list," said OVCS board member Dave Diosi. "The feedback we've received has been totally positive. The guys genuinely look forward to participating in our event."
Diosi pointed out potential groups of organizations interested in sponsoring a tee or green may consider mailing a tax deductible donation to the Soldiers at: Ohio Valley Christian Soldiers, P.O. Box 221, St. Clairsville, Ohio, 43950.
