BETHESDA-At a recent village council meeting, Mayor Marty Lucas presented a certificate of recognition and appreciation to George and Candy Lendon on behalf of the village.

The Lendons operated a State Farm agency in Bethesda for 38 years before George retired in May.

George has been a member of the Bethesda-Belmont-Morristown Rotary for 27 years and is a Paul Harris Fellow with that organization.

The Lendons have also volunteered with the Project Manna food program in the Union Local area and are active at the East Richland Friends Evangelical Church and Schools.

"Every phone call presented an opportunity to help someone in difficult or sometimes humorous situations, " Lendon said of his insurance business. "We were so blessed to have a good staff in Mary Owens and Edie Schultz." He noted that both are licensed and continue to operate the office until a new State Farm agent can be assigned.

Upon retirement the Lendons donated a map of Bethesda dated June 1911 in memory of their family. The map belonged to Candy's grandfather, Clark J. Hunt and hung in George's office.
