WOODSFIELD - Current plans are for River High School students to remain in that school while construction is under way.
The work at the Hannibal-based school is the latest project in the Switzerland of Ohio Local School District's major building program, and it involves the combination of Hannibal Elementary, Sardis Elementary and River High School.
Construction at River High School will extend until the summer of 2013.
"If the construction is behind or affected, the River High students will be moved to Powhatan Elementary after it is vacant," said Superintendent Larry Elliott. "The new Powhatan Elementary will be finished in late December to early January. As of right now, the move of the students is a back-up plan."
For this move to happen, the bus route will have to be revamped.
"Powhatan has more students, most that go to River are in the Powhatan area," said Elliott.
The construction of the other schools is still under way as well. The cornerstones for both Monroe Central High School and Woodsfield Elementary School were dedicated in June. Woodsfield will be finished by the time school starts in August. Monroe Central will be finished by the end of September to the beginning of October.
In other news, the board will hold two board meetings this coming week to interview and hire a new treasurer. Janet Hissrich, who has been treasurer four years, recently resigned to become treasurer for the Union Local School District. A meeting will be held Tuesday to interview for the position, and another will be held on Thursday to employ the new treasurer.
