The Top Flite Junior Tour completed its season recently and the players got the treat of playing the Meadows Course at Greenbrier Resort.
Several area golfers made the nearly 5-hour trip to southern West Virginia to play in the same location that the professionals just played a few weeks ago.
Wheeling's Kyle Wensel shot a round of 69 to win the 13-14 year old division, while cole Hand shot a 70 en route to winning the 15-16 year old division. He was also the recipient of the player of the year for his age group.
St. Clairsville's Seth Vannoy posted a round of 78. Red Devils' senior-to-be Adam Jeffries finished tied for sixth in the 17-18 year old division with a round of 75.
SALT FORK JUNIOR
As prep golf season draws ever so closer with each passing day, one of the final competitive tuneups for prep linksters unfolds Monday at Salt Fork.
Tournament director Mel Pesuit, who is the head golf coach at Meadowbrook High School, released the playing pairings and hole assignments for the stroke-play event, whic features several area players.
Included in the field are St. C.'s Vannoy, Harrison Central's James Beckett, Shadyside's Nick Ferrelli, Martins Ferry's Brandon Bliss, Bridgeport's Matt Herink, Martins Ferry's Joel Shane, Harrison Central's Drew Horn, Martins Ferry's Taylor Shane, Bridgeport's Zach Hernik, Martins Ferry's Zach Riggenbach and Harrison Central's James Thompson.
FIRST NATIONAL BANK
The tour made a stop at Zoar Village Golf Club in Tuscarawas County last Tuesday.
St. Clairsville senior Caden Myers finished tied for fifth with a score of 79 on the par 72 layout.
Martins Ferry's Andrew Chlon, Harrison Central's Drew Horn and James Thompson also took part in the 16-18 year old division.
In the 13-15 year old division, Martins Ferry's Joel Shane played in the tournament.
WHEELING PARK GOLF CLUB
The Bryan Financial Group held its annual event at Wheeling Park Golf Course. Art Lightner continued his strong play this summer with another victory in the medal group, posting a round of 65. He was a shot better than Roger Kupfer and Dan Willming.
Paul Carney prevailed in the handicap portion of the event, posting a round of 63. Jerry Daughterty was second with a 64 and Kyle Wensel was third with a 65.
ROBBINS RIDGE GOLF LEAGUE
The Senecaville Seniors League heated back up this past week as the second half of the season began.
Pat St. Clair had the closest to the pin and Greg Clapper had the closest to the pin on the second shot in the league play this week. The low gross team title went to Stavroff/Mayberry as well as St. Clair/St. Clair. Each team put up scores of 33. The low net award went to Trott and Kapulka with a 32.
The upcoming high school golf season could be one of the most entertaining in years as several talented players are back in the field.

Showalter Classic Accepting Entries, Sponsorships
The 8th Annual Jeffrey Showalter Memorial Celebrity Golf Classic, sponsored by the Ohio Valley Christian Soldiers, will be played Wednesday, Aug. 15 at Belmont Hills Country Club.
One of the Ohio Valley's premier fundraising events of the year, the Showalter Memorial featured numerous national sports celebrities who gather for a common cause.
Team entry fee is $500 while tee and green sponsorships are available at $100. The day-long event culminated with a buffet-style dinner. Those interested in attending the reception and dinner only may do so for $75.
Over 30 celebrities are scheduled to participate. Past celebrities in the field have included Pittsburgh Pirates John Cadelaria, Jim Rooker, Grant Jackson and Kent Tekulve. Ex-Pittsburgh Steelers to appear in the Showalter event include Mel Blount, Robin Cole, Mike Merriweather and Dick Hoak.
