Cofflands in Court

July 31, 2012
Times Leader

Belmont County Commissioner Matt D. Coffland made his initial court appearance this morning. He faces five charges, along with his son Matthew B. Coffland.

Both are facing criminal charges and appeared for pre-trial hearings in Belmont County Eastern Division Court in front of Monroe County Judge James Peters.

Thomas Hampton served as the special prosecutor for the state.

Matthew D. Coffland's bond that was posted the night of the arrest was continued and two conditions were reached.

The defendant is not to consume or possess alcoholic beverages, and the second, the defendant is not to enter any establishment that sells alcohol beverages for consumption, unless it is his own establishment, The Tiger Pub, so long as he abides by his first condition.

The latest charges Commissioner Coffland is facing stem from an incident at Jamboree In The Hills. He is charged with assault on a peace officer and disorderly conduct but is also facing separate charges that reportedly stem from alleged behavior during and investigation of their business, The Tiger Pub in Shadyside, by liquor control agents.
