Drakes Hotel:

Omaha band to perform in Barnesville

August 2, 2012
Times Leader

Skyflight Productions presents an evening with Drakes Hotel, from Omaha, Neb., on Friday, Aug. 3, at Barnesville Memorial Park beginning at 8 p.m. The Omaha band, relocated from Seattle and Santa Cruz, Calif., is staffed by a husband and wife duo, producer/guitarist Chris Yanulis and singer Amy Drake. "Logic Adopts Senses" is the fourth release by Drakes Hotel. Combining elements of post-punk, new wave, power pop, dance and indie rock, they have created songs with an adventurous spirit, full of sonic ingenuity that draw from their eclectic 80's and 90's upbringings. These are songs both cathartic and nocturnal, a Dark Pop. With their signature drum machines along with a fortress of guitars and voice, their style and sound remains intact eight years on. Ditching the traditional band, the DIY duo continue to embrace a performance dynamic that sees no boundaries or limitations on what two people can create live onstage. Shows consist of the duo, many amps, guitars, pedals, loopers, keys and other devices used to augment their ghost rhythm section. Along with artists such as Lykke Li, Diamond Rings, and School Of Seven Bells among others, they have created a modern style that defies simple and easy classification.
