BALOG, Irene R., 87, of Canton passed away Friday August 17, 2012 in Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born June 26, 1925 in Maynard, OH, to the late Walter and Sophia (Vicker) Oboy.
Irene was a Canton area resident since 1948. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Canton where she was active with the senior group, the Altar/Rosary Society and a member of the former Knights of Columbus Columbiana's. Irene was an avid bowler for many years and truly enjoyed the various church bus trips.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Joanne Vitale; three sisters, Mary Yudasz, Ann Luginski and Gene Piwkowski; and one brother, Tony Oboy.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Stephen Balog Sr.; two sons, Stephen Balog Jr. of Brewster, OH, and Robert Balog of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Denny Allem of Canton, and Monica and Carey Linerode of Louisville; five grandchildren, Joe (Liz) Vitale, Nichole Allem, Amanda Linerode, Jennifer (David) Greene and Nathan Linerode; two step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and 11 step-great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Jean Oboy, Eddie and Ellen Oboy and Joe Oboy; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Stella Zavacky and Olga and Jim Lukacsko; and former daughter-in-law Mary Tessanne of Canton.
A Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday August 21, 2012 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. Benson Okpara as celebrant. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday 5-8 p.m. in the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home on S. Cleveland Ave., Canton.
