St. Clairsville's Red Devils are atop the Buckeye 8 Golf Championship following first round play.
St. C. posted a combined score of 307, some 11 shots better than runnerup Martins Ferry (318). Harrison Central teamed for 355 and a third place showing.
The 2012 Buckeye 8 event is being contested at the par 72 Cadiz Country Club layout.
Edison (376) and Union Local (382) round out the top five with Buckeye Local and Indian Creek placing sixth and seventh, respectively. Bellaire is represented by one golfer.
Second round play is scheduled Sept. 7 with the team champion will be crowned.
Awards will also be distributed to the top five individuals.
The Red Devils' Adam Jeffries fired a two-over par 74 for early individual leadership. Jeffries' St. C. teammate Zach Keylor is runnerup at four-over 76. Harrison veteran Drew Horn came in a five-over 77 as did Ferry ace Andrew Chlon.
