HUGH, Robert W.

Family and friends have lost a "one in a million" but heaven has gained when Robert "Bob" W. Hugh, age 80, of Scio, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, August 26, 2012 from Harrison Community Hospital in Cadiz.

Born June 30, 1932 in Bowerston, he was a son of the late Marion and Elizabeth Spillman Hugh.

Bob attended Scio High School where he was a standout basketball player, earning the record for the most points scored in a single game. He graduated from Scio High School in 1950 and furthered his education at Franciscan University of Steubenville and Dayton University.

Over his lifetime, he was a teacher, principal, bus driver and coach for the Scio, Jewett-Scio and Harrison Hills School District's. He was a former North Township Trustee and Harrison County Commissioner and was currently serving on the board of the Harrison Hills School District.

Bob loved his community and was a member of the Hanover Methodist Church, Dining Fork Ruritans of Scio and the Scio Civic Club. He was honored by being inducted into the Harrison County Sports Hall of Fame twice. He enjoyed sports, farming and horse racing but most of all he loved spending time with his family. It was this love of family that inspired him to become a foster parent to over 30 children.

Surviving are the love of this life, Betty Robinson Hugh who he married in 1951; children, Richard (Becky) Hugh; Beth (Sam) McIntosh, Cathy (Pat) Gretchen, Stevie Hugh and Faye Harding; Todd (Raschele') Hauber; daughter-in-law Shelly Walters; grandchildren, Bambi, Kirby, Tabetha, Samantha, Tessa, Kylie and Sierra; step grandchildren, John, Jodi, Jennifer, Steph, Damian and Becky; a great grandson, Mason Hugh Berger; 12 stepgreat-grand children; brother, Dick (Myrna) Hugh and sister, Ruth Hilbert; brother-in- law, Jim Robinson and sisters-in-law, Sandi Robinson and Barb (Bud) Whiteman and many nieces, nephews and special friends including his "coffee buddies".

He was preceded in death by his sons, Robert Lynn and Steven James Hugh; sister, Bease Newell; brother, James Hugh and brother-in-law, "Peanut" Hilbert.

Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. in Hanover Methodist Church with Pastors Roger Zimmerman and Mike Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in Hanover Methodist Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-9 p.m., Wednesday at Koch Funeral Home, Scio and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hanover Methodist Church c/o Jerry Valdinger, 36880 Gundy Ridge Road, Scio 43988 or the donor's choice.
