Home invasion in Ferry

September 9, 2012
By ROBERT A. DEFRANK - Staff Writer , Times Leader

MARTINS FERRY Police received information of a home invasion by fraud occurring Thursday night.

A resident reported a man gained admittance to her residence after self-identifying as a city employee checking leaky water pipes.

He was allowed access to the home, the basement and upstairs on the pretense of examining the pipes.

Later, residents became suspicious and contacted the water plant.

They were informed of no such inspections.

Martins Ferry Police Chief McFarland said the intruder's movements were not monitored by the resident.

It is not yet known if anything was stolen.

No detailed description of the man could be obtained. McFarland is not aware of similar activities in the past.

He advises citizens not to allow anyone into their homes without proper identification.

Anyone noticing suspicious activity should contact the police at (740) 633-2121.
