Samples from fixed points around the grounds of the RG Steel Yorkville Mill were taken by an outside company Friday. Esmark Steel Group, the successful bidder for the mill in the bankruptcy auction, had to put its purchase of the local mill on hold at the 11th hour when Ohio officials brought up the question of how the purchaser planned to address EPA citations and issues already on record. Esmark said RG Steel had not made those issues known. It is known that Esmark, federal and state EPA officials and a core group of Ohio's representatives have been working cooperatively to assess the situation and develop a plan of remediation comfortable to all and that will help Esmark get the sale completed, and the plant back up and in operation quickly.
