BIGGS, Harold Sheldon, “Skelly"

BIGGS, Harold Sheldon, "Skelly," 89, of Bellaire, OH, departed this life Tuesday, September 18, 2012.

He was born on April 21, 1923 in Bellaire, OH to the late Clarence Boyd Biggs and Florence Helen White.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Juanita Sylvia Jones; sister, Lillian Biggs and brothers, Norman, Robert and Rolland Biggs.

Harold graduated from Bellaire High School in 1941 and shortly after, enlisted in the army. He courageously served as one of the famed and distinguished "Buffalo Soldiers" of the Calvary of Engineers during World War II and was awarded the Colmar Coast of Arms. His service during World war included tours in France, Belgium, Italy, North Africa, and Germany.

Upon his return from the war Harold attended West Virginia State College and the Ohio state University.

Harold Retired from Ormet Corporation.

Harold was a respected member of the community. He belonged to the American Legion Post 89, Wheeling, West Virginia; Masonic Order 78, Bridgeport, Ohio and the former Beau Brummel Club of Wheeling, West Virginia. He served as a Notary Public for the State of Ohio.

Harold was a Methodist by faith and a member of the former St. Paul A.M.E Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory children, Gordon Lyle Biggs (Shirley), Strongville, Ohio; Shelly Ann Biggs, Lester DeWayne Biggs, Columbus, OH; Valerie Biggs-Hill (George) Cleveland Heights, OH; Clarence Sheldon Biggs, Columbus, OH and Steven Boyd Biggs (Carolyn), Pittsburgh, PA; 15 grandchildren, 11 great- grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Also one brother-in-law, Daniel Jones resides in Columbus, OH.

Family and Friends will be received Sunday September 23, 2012 at the Bauknecht-Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, 441-37th Street, Bellaire, OH from noon to 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. where services will be held Monday, September 24, 2012 at 1 p.m.

Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Bellaire, OH.
