A two-vehicle accident on Ohio 7 early Saturday morning has left a Bellaire man dead, while two other people are still hospitalized with what authorities are calling non-life threatening injuries.
According to the St. Clairsville post of the Ohio Highway Patrol, Charles Anastasia, 25, of Bellaire, died from injuries he received in the crash.
Inside the car Anastasia struck were 34-year-old Tiffany Aubrey, of Bridgeport, and her passenger, 37-year-old Timmy Abate, of Benwood, troopers said.
ONE OF two vehicles involved in a deadly crash early Saturday morning in Belmont County is pictured at Naylor Brothers Towing in Martins Ferry.
Ohio 7 near Bellaire was shut down for three hours while emergency crews worked at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 12:49 a.m.
Anatasia's vehicle allegedly was traveling southbound at milepost 18 when it crossed the median into the northbound traffic, troopers said. The car then allegedly struck Aubrey's vehicle head-on, causing Anastasia's vehicle to overturn. The deceased was thrown from the car, authorities said.
Ohio Department of Transportation crews shut down the roadway between 26th and 48th streets for crash reconstruction, according to the OHP. Lanes didn't re-open to traffic until around 4 a.m. Saturday.
At least one car involved in the crash was towed to Naylor Brothers towing service in Martins Ferry. Troopers said that Anastasia was not wearing a seat belt, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.
Troopers said they took statements from Abate and Aubrey on Saturday morning at Wheeling Hospital.
The accident is still under investigation.
Officers from Bellaire and Martins Ferry assisted.
IN other news, Bellaire Police Chief Mike Kovalyk confirmed Saturday afternoon that a stabbing occurred in the village sometime late Friday night or early Saturday morning.
Kovalyk said the subject did not sustain life-threatening injuries, and could not give a clear description of his attacker.
The chief said more information would be released Monday.
