BELLAIRE police are continuing their investigation into a report that a man was stabbed around 3 a.m. on Saturday in the 4300 block of Franklin Street.

According to Chief Mike Kovalyk, the man is recovering from multiple stab wounds. Police were notified of the stabbing when they received a call from Belmont Community Hospital.

"We have had some activity in that area before, and we are trying to follow up on any leads we can," the chief said.

Officers asked the man for a description of the person who stabbed him. but Kovalyk said there is not much they can work with. "The victim was very vague on the information," he added.

Kovalyk said police were told the assailant was a thin black man who was shirtless.

Some neighbors did not want to talk about the incident and said they are unaware of area crimes. However, police said they are investigating several crimes, not just stabbings around the city.

"The activity has increased," Kovalyk said. "We are trying to stay on top of it the best way we can. A lot of people don't like to hear it, but our manpower and our resources are limited." However, despite those limited resources, police say they will not stop doing what they can to keep their community safe.

According to a report, the victim was transported to Ohio Valley Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
