PAPPAS, George Gregory Sr., 64, of Norwich, OH, died Monday, September 24, 2012.
He was born October 30, 1947, in Zanesville, OH.
George graduated from Zanesville High School, class of 1965.
He married Hilda Marie Felton on February 20, 1971 in Coshocton, OH at St. John's United Church of Christ by Rev. Rezasch and Father Menelaos Papageorge of the Martins Ferry Greek Orthodox Church.
George was President of Lumi-Lite Candle Co. Inc. and a former president of the National Candle Association. He received the 2010 NCA Hall of Fame Award for his accomplishments and contributions to the industry. He was a member of several committees, including the ASTM Fire Safety Committee, and holds several patents that improved candle safety. He also worked tirelessly to protect the industry from unfair foreign trade practices and testified several times in Washington, D.C., on behalf of the industry.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Zanesville, OH.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda and two children, Natasha of Portland, OR, and George II and his wife, Angie, their daughters Alexis and Alaina, all of Norwich, OH; brother, Pete of Zanesville, OH; and nephew, Zane, his wife, Alison and their son, Soren of Westerville, OH.
George was preceded in death by his parents, Gregory George and Catherine (Sharpino) Pappas and sister-in-law, Verne Pappas.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 27, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with Christian vigil at 7:45 p.m. followed by an opportunity for comments from family and friends at Hillis & Hard wick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave., Zanesville, OH.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, September 28, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Zanesville, OH, with Father Martin Ralko as celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery.
