Add sparkle to your holiday

October 20, 2012

If you're like me, you're looking at the calendar wondering, "Where has 2012 gone?" It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is about a month away and there are only 65 days left until Christmas. I love the holidays, but what's not to love? Time with family and friends tops the list, but there's also the sights, sounds and smells of the holidays.

When I was a child, my mom and grandma used to drive me and my sister all over the area to look at holiday lights. Unfortunately, many people just don't have enough time to relax and drive around looking at the holiday decorations - they're doing too much shopping, baking and decorating of their own.

Well perhaps The Times Leader can help bring a little bit of those wonderful holiday decorations to you without you having to even leave your home. How will we do that? Read on!

For the third year, The Times Leader is holding its Holiday Sparkle contest which showcases holiday light displays in the area. We invite you to send us your best decorated Christmas tree and decorated house (outside) photos.

No matter your decorating style, whether it be a "less is more" outlook or a Chevy Chase "Christmas Vacation" sort of style, we want you to send us your photo! Maybe your friend or neighbor always has the prettiest Christmas tree or the most cheerful home - urge them to send in a photo!

We will publish the first 16 house photos and the first 16 Christmas tree photos in Holiday Sparkle, a special section of The Times Leader, on Sunday, Dec. 16. We must receive your photos by Dec. 7 if you wish to be included in the section. But you need to hurry! We will ONLY publish the first 16 photos we receive of each, so it pays to decorate early!

In addition, for the lucky people who submit the first 16 photos in each category, they will receive a gift card from either of our contest sponsors, Perkins Restaurant & Bakery or the Imperial Teachers Store. And all you have to do is just send us your photo!

Please send your best, high quality photo with information including your name, address and a phone number where we can reach you during the day should we have any questions to sdunder@ You can also mail or drop off your photo in person to Holiday Sparkle, c/o The Times Leader, 200 South 4th Street, Martins Ferry, Ohio, 43935.

But remember - we're only publishing the first 16 pictures we get in each category. So maybe it's not too soon to rummage through the Christmas boxes in the attic. Share your holiday spirit with the rest of the area and give everyone's holiday a little extra sparkle!
