HEBRON - Four local cross country runners returned back to the Ohio Valley with all-Ohio honors following Saturday's state meet.
Shadyside senior Tara Tollett led the local contingent with a seventh place finish in the girls' Division III race with a time of 18:41.57.
"I'm pleased with my finish," Tollett said via cell phone late Saturday afternoon. "It feels great. It was awesome to be on the podium."
Tollett will continue her career at Ohio University next fall.
St. John Central's Fallon Doyle became an all-Ohioan for the third time as she finished 11th in the girls' Division III race. The Irish sophomore clocked in at 18:51.15.
She was a third-place finisher as a freshman.
"I don't think that Fallon was disappointed with her time," SJC head coach Jeremy Midei said. "When you get to that level and don't have your best day, it's just one of those things. "She was excited, especially to be on the podium with her good friend Tara (Tollett)."
Corey Leasure wrapped up his Irish career by finishing 25th with a time of 16:18.06.
"Corey ran really well," Midei noted. "He was a little under the weather, but he got himself into perfect position and continually moved up towards the front of the pack. He didn't have his best finish in the final 600-800 meters, but he had a great day and I'd expect nothing less from him."
It was the third best time of Leasure's career.
IN DIVISION II, St. Clairsville Juliana Madzia clocked in at 19:04.27 to claim 20th spot in the girls' race.
In earning her all-Ohioan honor, the Red Devils' senior set a personal record.
"I couldn't think of a better way for her to finish her career," St. Clairsville head coach Tony Ciroli said. "It was a great day for a great young lady. I'm extremely proud of her."
Martins Ferry's Sunshine Wrenn and Jamie Truchan also competed.
In boys' action, the Red Devils' Drake Walker finished well back in the pack with a time of 18:42.
