STEUBENVILLE - Eastern Gateway Community College employees recently voted for employees of the year, and the awards went to Darrell Lawrence, assistant professor of humanities, and Mary Ellen Horkey, central services clerk.
Lawrence joined the college in 1998 as an adjunct instructor before being hired full time in 2000. Prior to teaching, he was a freelance technical writer. A member of the National Council of Teachers of Education, Lawrence also served on the transfer assurance guide committee for the Ohio Board of Regents and was a judge for Steubenville City Schools' annual spelling bee. He holds a bachelor's degree in English from California State University and a master's degree in English from West Virginia University.
Horkey has served in her position since 1994. She earned an associate of applied business degree in business management from Eastern Gateway. She and her husband, Perry, reside in Amsterdam.
