PRINCETON, W.Va. West Liberty University safety Marco Ricchetti has been honored as the West Virginia Conference's Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season.
Ricchetti, a 6-3, 200-pound junior from Martins Ferry, Ohio, played a key role on Saturday as the Hilltoppers clinched a winning season with a 23-22 upset of regionally-ranked North Carolina-Pembroke at Russek Field.
The West Liberty standout was charted with a game-high 10 tackles his fifth double-digit tackle game of the season against the high-powered Braves attack.
Four of Ricchetti's tackles were solo hits and he also was credited with a pass break-up.
With the Hilltoppers clinging to a precarious one-point lead late in the fourth quarter, Ricchetti capped his outstanding afternoon's work by snuffing out UNC-Pembroke's final drive with an interception in the end zone to clinch the win.
Ricchetti had previously earned WVIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors following West Liberty's wins against Virginia State on Sept. 8 and Shepherd on Oct. 13.
Charleston tailback Jordan Roberts is this week's WVIAC Offensive Player of the Week while Charleston kicker Puma Nuredini earned Special Teams Player of the Week honors.
