Times flies when you’re having fun

Where has the time gone?

That's a question that pops up all the time, but it's especially true for the Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes will play their final game of the 2012 season Saturday against Michigan in what will conclude Urban Meyer's first season at the helm of the Buckeyes.

Meyer, however, is under contract for a long time and will be back next season. The same can't be said for the 21 Buckeyes' seniors who will be recognized prior to the game.

Remember, these seniors had the option to transfer to any school in the country and play immediately after the NCAA handed down sanctions against the OSU program stemming from the memorabilia for tattoo scandal that eventually cost Jim Tressel his job.

However, after battling through a 6-7 campaign last season, Meyer was hired last November and the seniors bought in immediately.

"I usually get emotional talking about these guys," Meyer said during his weekly press conference. "I still remember the day they told us we couldn't go to a bowl. I called a team meeting and I kept the seniors afterward. I had no idea who they were and they didn't know me, so it was a leap of faith."

Of the 21 seniors, 12 are from Ohio, so they were born and bred Buckeyes, which definitely played a role.

"I think it was the love of their school," Meyer said. "I know exactly why they stayed now. It's for the love of Ohio State. It's really cool in this day and age to witness that."

Meyer did uphold the long-time OSU tradition of the 'Senior Tackle' during last night's workout.

It was a tradition Meyer has adopted at all of his previous head coaching jobs after he learned it as a graduate assistant in Columbus.

"It's one of the greatest traditions," Meyer said. "It's one of the great traditions to send a young man to represent his last practice as a Buckeye."
