Barnesville park project targeted

December 4, 2012
GLYNIS VALENTI - Staff Writer , Times Leader

BARNESVILLE-After more discussion about implications of installing a drainage system for the Memorial Park ball fields, Barnesville Village Council voted to approve a letter of consent to apply for assistance from the Operational Engineers.

"I'm all for improving the park, and I don't mind approving the letter," said Councilman Brad Hudson. "But we need to understand that if we agree to one stage [the drainage system] then we'll have to go on to the other stage and work on the fields. Then we could be talking about $20,000."

Members did commit to the $4,000 that will be needed should the park project be accepted by the engineers. The Park Board expects to hear whether the project is a "go" the first part of 2013.

Mayor Ron Bischof publically thanked Davis Tree Farm for their donation of the town Christmas tree. He also recognized and thanked the pre-school students at Barnesville Elementary for their decorations on the tree.

The mayor and council members noted that the Bureau of Motor Vehicles office has been given a three-year contract for their space in Barnesville, and credited the community for their support of the Barnesville office and the positive comments about the agency.

Police Chief Dave Norris mentioned that a "truck entrance" sign has been ordered for Mulberry Street near Railroad Street to warn motorists. There have been close calls with vehicles in that area.

Members approved Pay Ordinance #25 in the amount of $85,479.05 with an addition totaling $6,557.85. Three other ordinance votes were tabled until next meeting because only four voting members were present, and five are needed to suspend additional readings when altering village law.

The annual Village Employee Christmas Luncheon will be held Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The next village council meeting will be held Monday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m.
