Times Leader

VEHRE, Elizabeth "Betty Jane" age 77, of Strasburg, died instantly Tuesday, November 27, 2012, as the result of an automobile tragedy in Harrison County.

Born in her family home, February 22, 1935, in Herrick Valley (near Adena) OH, she was the first born child of the late John and Sally Ferron Nameth.

A 1952 graduate of Adena High School, she went on to marry her high school sweetheart, Carl Vehre, the following year on January 17, 1953.

For most of their lives, Betty and Carl resided in Boardman Township, where Betty worked in Youngstown for the Westinghouse Corporation as an branch manager.

In retirement Betty and Carl relocated to Strasburg in 1993, and have enjoyed small town life to the fullest.

Betty will be remembered for her love of family and friends, for her nurturing spirit, for her appreciation of treasurers found in flea markets, and antique malls, for the joy she took in traveling with her husband.

Survivors, in addition to her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl, who resides at Strasburg, include her brothers, John (wife, Cecilia) Nameth of Mentor, OH, Jerry (wife, Laura) Nameth of Dubuque, IA, and her sister and best friend, Jacqueline (husband, Ralph) Dunkle of Tappan Lake.

She'll be sadly missed by her nieces and nephews; Richard (Carrie) Nameth, Michele (Michael) Pugh, Derek Nameth, Dawn (Nate) Weathers, Brian (Stephanie) Dunkle, Darren (Farrah) Dunkle, and Danielle (Jeremy) Walters. Many great-nieces and great-nephews also survive, and she was particularly close to McKayla, Kayden and Kayne Dunkle and Dylan and Daylee Walters.

Her dearly beloved Siamese cat, named Bunny, and two other cats, Tom and Jerry, complete Betty's family.

The Rev. Hugh B. Berry will lead a funeral service for Betty at 10:30 Friday morning in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. Burial will follow in Grandview Union Cemetery at Strasburg.

Those unable to attend are invited to share memories and condolences with the family by visiting the funeral home's website. Memorial contributions may be made to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 6895 Dover Zoar Road NE, Dover, OH 44622.
