ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Organizers of the Barkcamp Race have decided what to do with race proceeds and funds left from the now-dissolved group Friends of Barkcamp. On Saturday, Dec. 8, they presented Jack Gilman of North Star Polaris with a check for the purchase of a UTV, a four-wheeled utility vehicle, to be used at Barkcamp.
"We said all along that we wanted the proceeds to go back to the park in some way to help the staff there," said Cindy Foose, Barkcamp Race coordinator.
According to Jason Carpenter of Ohio State Parks, the vehicle will be used by park staff and volunteers for maintenance, clearing the trails and for search and rescue incidents at Barkcamp. He stresses that there are no ATV trails in the park, but it will be a welcome tool in maintaining its miles of public hiking, equestrian and snowmobile trails.

Barkcamp State Park will be receiving a UTV because of a cooperative effort between the Barkcamp Race and North Star Polaris in St. Clairsville. Gilman, who has supported the Barkcamp Race and other races in the past, noted that the efforts were for "a good cause" and worked with them on pricing.
Barkcamp Race coordinator Rodney Miller adds that they are pleased that the race is able to give something back to the park and say thank you for their cooperation and support for the past eight years.
North Star Polaris, 50500 Valley Frontage Rd., sells and services ATVs, UTVs, Victory Motorcycles, trikes and trailers and is open Monday through Saturday. Visit www.northstarpolaris.com for details.
