MARTINS FERRY - The project to assign identification cards to all city employees has been completed and the identifiers have been issued.
The project was initiated after officials heard reports of individuals posing as city employees and attempting to gain access to citizens' homes.
Service Director Charles Bennett thanked Sgt. Chip Ghent of the police department for helping to make the creation of the cards a reality.
"When one of our employees shows up at a citizen's house, he should be wearing this card that identifies him with his or her photo, a brief description and a phone number to call to verify this information," he said, adding that this includes electricians, sanitation workers, street, sewer and water department, and all employees at the city building.
Bennett added that the EMS is considering using the cards as well.
