Host Barnesville led the entire first half then held on after a second half charge by visiting St. Clairsville to close out the 2012 portion of its schedule with a 41-39 win.
"I told the girls in practice that we are talented, but we need to work hard on the court because without that drive it does not matter how good you potentially could be," said Shamrocks' head coach Jamie Carpenter. "I am very proud of our effort tonight we came out ready to play, we did come out a little flat in the second half and let them have the lead, but we did not quit."
The Shamrocks would outscore the Red Devils 13-8 in the opening frame and 10-9 in the second to take a 23-17 lead into the break.

"The Merry Christmas killed us," said St. Clairsville head coach Alicia Freeman. "We had too many days off with the snow yesterday and we came out flat and we did not play 'D,' we gave up too many points.
"It should have never came down to that last play before the buzzer ," Freeman added. "Give credit to Barnesville, we just got out-hustled."
St. Clairsville was not ready to concede the contest and came out in the third period using a full court press to force some turnovers and get back into the contest knotting the game at 23 apiece before taking their first lead at the 4:09 mark in the third stanza as netted the back end of a penalty pair.
The Red Devils outscored their hosts in the third frame 14-5 a and still led 37-32 with 4:42 remaining. Host Barnesville still had some fight and utilized passing to break the press as they hustled back to tie it up at 37 apiece just a minute later.
"Confidence wise, I think this was a big step in the right direction for us tonight because St. Clairsville is a good team, they are physical and they are fast," Carpenter said. "We have come along way and we are improving each game."
The Red Devils took back the advantage, 39-37, with 2:35 remaining in regulation, but that would be all the scoring for the visitors as Barnesville netted the next four points.
St. Clairsville would get one last shot at a tie as the 'Rocks missed four late penalty shots, but the last two shots would not fall and Barnesville pulled down the rebound as the final buzzer sounded.
Carlee Gillespie paced the Red Devils with 15 points. Alexis St. Clair joined her in double figures with 11 points. St. Clairsville shot 13 of 60 action shots netting a chilly 21 percent. The Red Devils converted 12 of 20 from the charity stripe.
Barnesville had three players in double-figures as Raquel Bahmer netted 13, Miranda Plumly chipped in 12 and freshman Shaela Markovich added 10 lightings. The hosts shot 17 of 51 from the floor and 5 of 13 on penalty shots.
The Red Devils fall to 5-4 and, because of a schedule change, will host River as jayvee begins Saturday at 4 p.m. Barnesville will return to action in 2013 as it travels to Beallsville next Thursday.
The Shamrocks' Jayvee won the opener 35-23.
