River, SJC?girls post wins

River traveled across the New Martinsville Bridge Saturday afternoon and returned to Hannibal with a repeat victory over homestanding Magnolia in girls' high school basketball action.

Cassidy McCullough scored 20 points to lead the Lady Pilots (10-2) to a 65-32 conquest of the Blue Eagles (4-6). Laken Ramsay and Emile Weaver evenly divided 22 counters. Jensen Caretti chipped in nine and Haylee Bowers added eight.

River led 13-6 after one quarter and 25-15 at the half before blowing away to a 48-26 advantage after three periods.

Caretti grabbed a game-high seven of River's 30 rebounds. She also charted five of her team's 17 steals and Ramsay dished out three assists.

The Pilots also won the JV game.

River will look to avenge one of its two losses Monday when always-tough Fort Frye visits the R.L. Potts Gymnasium.

Steubenville 62,

Harrison Central 52

At Cadiz, the invading Lady Big Red rallied from a seven-point deficit after three periods to overtake host Harrison Central.

Steubenville was a 10-8 leader after one period before Harrison came back for a 25-23 intermission advantage. The Lady Huskies extended the spread to 44-37 after three panels prior to Big Red's fourth quarter comeback.

Mytia Barker connected for 18 Steubenville points and was backed by teammates Emily Masloski (17) and Dana Poole (12).

Big Red converted 30-of-50 free throw attempts.

Harrison's Katie Ellzy totaled 14 points and seven boards. Paige Richards provided 12-point support.

The now 5-7 Lady Huskies have a Monday night road test at Buckeye Local.

St. John's 65 Paden City 36

At Paden City, invading St. John sprinted to 23-7 command after one period and went on to wipe out the Lady Wildcats.

Bubba Kapral's Lady Irish extended the lead to 37-19 at halftime and maintained 46-28 command at the final stop.

Marissa Rose paced five St. John's double figure scorers with 13 tallies. Veteran Kristen Russell netted 17 counters. Kaydie Coppa, Jessica Alvey and Lindsay Froelich connected for 10 markers apiece.

St. John's remains on the road for a 6 p.m. (varsity only) Wednesday tipoff at Toronto.
