Ferry trounces Edison; Monroe Central prevails

Martins Ferry's Purple Riders improved to 6-4 following a 72-42 Tuesday night trouncing of Edison at Richmond.

Coach Jeff Sabatino's Riders mounted leads of 20-6 and 38-14 after the first two periods and took a 51-24 upperhand to the final eight minutes.

Cody Schau enjoyed another productive outing for the Purple, pouring in a game-leading 26 points.

Teammates Robert Vargo and Jake Barritt supported with 17 and 10 points, respectively.

Ferry faces another Buckeye 8 road outing Friday at St. Clairsville.

Monroe Central 60,

Shenandoah 52

AT Woodsfield, the host Seminoles used a 19-10 fourth quarter eruption to knock off the invading Zeps.

Coach Scooter Tolzda's team led 25-24 after one period but trailed 33-32 at halftime and 42-41 after three panels.

Bryan Duffy's team-high 19 points paced the Noles. Josh Guiler recorded a double-double, scoring 17 points and nabbing 10 rebounds. Zack Jorris provided 10-point support.

Monroe shot 23-of-54 from the floor and was charted for but five turnovers.

The Seminole jayvees received twin digit production from Austin Burgette (22), Cody Logston (14), Tanner Burkhart (14) and Gage Ash (12) in a 83-72 victory.

Newcomerstown 57,

Beallsville 55

AT Beallsville, Big Blue couldn't protect a 10-point fourth quarter lead in falling to invading Newcomerstown.

The loss spoiled a milestone performance by Blue Devils' senior guard Teryn Jarrett who eclipsed the 1,000-point career scoring mark with a 26-point outing. Kyle Groves provided 11-point support.

Hunter Shreary's 24 points paced the 5-5 Trojans. Austin King donated 13 counters.

Beallsville, a 29-28 victor in Tuesday's jayvee encounter, has a Friday night road test at Barnesville.

Buckeye Trail 46,

AT Old Washington, junior Josh Toland tallied 21 points to spark the now 7-3 Warriors. Trail has a Friday night road outing at Shenandoah.

East Richland Christian 26

AT Toronto, the Lions' Grant Bruner netted 10 points and teammate Logan Lish added eight in a loss to the Red Knights.
