IT WAS a busy weekend for local firefighters as they battled blazes in several different parts of the area.

Three departments responded to a house fire on Hall Street in Maynard on Sunday around 11:30 p.m. Units responding were from Maynard, Barton and Harrisville.

They remained at the scene until 2 a.m. A spokesperson said the house was heavily damaged. He said the occupant was able to get out and no one was injured. The Salvation Army Canteen was also at the scene.

The State Fire Marshal's Office has been called to investigate the fire.

On Saturday, at 6 p.m., a fire destroyed a house on Fair Avenue in Fairview. Multiple departments responded to the fire. According to reports, no one was injured. A representative from the State Fire Marshal's office will be at the scene today to determine a cause.

Fairview firefighters said they requested assistance from Barnesville due to a lack of water. Crews from Fairview, Barnesvile, Quaker City and Antrim were at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No one was home at the time. Authorities say family pets were possibly lost, but they won't know until they hear from investigators today.

Colerain and Barton volunteer fire departments responded to a chimney fire at a house at the corner of Farmington Road and Twin Beech Road in Colerain around 11:25 p.m. Friday.

According to reports, all resident were out of the two-story house. Access to the chimney was impossible from the front of the house due to heavy ice on the porch roof. Firefighters had to use a ladder to get to the roof from the back of the house.

The fire was contained after approximately 30 minutes. Further investigation with the Thermal Imager found the crawl space near and around the chimney had cooled sufficiently to around 50 degrees.

The fire was restricted to the top plate of the chimney. The structure was not damaged and there were no injuries.
