HAYES, Gervis L. , 74, of 29897 Miltonsburg- Calais Road, Quaker City, OH (Calais Community) passed away Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Barnesville Hospital, Barnesville, OH.
He was born near Calais, OH on May 18, 1938, a son of the late Allen C. Hayes and Amelia Stephen Hayes.
Gervis was a retired operator for Shelley and Sands Contracting, Zanesville, OH. He was a life member of the Ohio Operating Engineers, Local 18, Akron, OH; a protestant by faith; a social member of the V.F.W., American Legion, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and Loyal Order of the Moose, all of Barnesville, OH.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Geneva Leasure, and Almeta Morris; and a brother, Kenneth Hayes.
Surviving are his wife, Genevra Carpenter Hayes, whom he married on June 14, 1958; four daughters, Sharon (Timothy) Snyder of Summerfield, OH, Cathy (Darryl) Nalley of Calais, OH, Carrie Heath of Woodsfield, Ohio, Sheila Whiteley and her companion, Brent Lumbatis of Summerfield, OH; one sister, Gertrude Brown of Barnesville, OH; seven grandchildren, Bradley Snyder, Peggy Pitts, Ricks Hayes, Stephen Heath, Ryan Nalley, Jeremy Whiteley and Jared Lumbatis; two great- grandchildren, Brody and Khloe Pitts; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Brubach-Watters Funeral Home, 202 Main St., Summerfield, OH from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Fred McGee officiating. Burial will follow in the Calais Cemetery, Calais, OH.
