SHADYSIDE - Village resident and former Mayor Lynn Marling approached council during Monday's meeting about the selling of village equipment.
"Why get rid of something, why not hire a couple more employees that can be useful?" asked Marling.
For some time, council has discussed the selling of a truck, a pav-a-lot, as well as other pieces that the village is currently not using or is taking up too much space. Council, along with Street Commissioner Jay Meek, planned to get rid of a truck that was purchased in 1999 and has 18,000 miles on it and buy a smaller truck that would benefit the village better.
"Number one, we don't have enough employees; number two, the truck itself is a 1999, if I'm not mistaken or a 2000, but it has 18,000 miles on it," said Meek. " The truck itself is overkill in my personal opinion and strictly because it has 18,000 miles on it and it is 13 years old, how much was that truck used?"
Several council members agreed that purchasing a smaller dump truck would be more beneficial for the village.
Meek also commented that there was 40 to 45 hours used for snow removal.
Fire Chief David Lenz updated council that the OR&W Fire District is still on track to become official on April 1. It recently hired legal counsel and hope to start interviews for part-time positions at the beginning of next month.
The next fire board meeting will be held on March 6 at 6 p.m. at the Shadyside Fire Station and are open to the public.
Letters concerning handicap parking were sent out this week and the residents were given until March to respond. Council will review the response.
