Taste Buds: The Forum

Buds find love at Cambridge mainstay

February 14, 2013

It's Valentine's Day and the Buds are in love.

And no, we don't mean with each other - although we do get along quite famously.

Actually, we've fallen head over heels for The Forum in Cambridge. Seriously, they had us at the basket of warm breadsticks our waitress greeted us with and it only went uphill from there!

Warm breadsticks.

The Forum, located at 2205 Southgate Parkway, has been in operation since 1987 and offers a wide variety of foods that include American, Greek and Italian cuisine, many of which are made from scratch. They were also featured in "101 Must Places to Eat in Ohio" by Karen Patterson - kind of a big deal! The eatery is clean and spacious and the Buds couldn't wait to dig in!

Please note: making a menu selection was exceptionally difficult and the Buds paid special attention to their house feature items which are specially marked. The menu includes many tantalizing appetizers such as homemade Greek pastries (spanikopita, tyropita and dolmades), artichoke dip, homemade cheese sticks, stuffed potato skins, flowering onion, stuffed and breaded ravioli, wings and more. And the SALADS! Wow! Not only do they have the standard grilled chicken, chef, taco and steak salads, but their house specialties also include the Chicken Roma Tortellini (yeah - tortellini ON a salad!), and the Authentic Greek Salad which Bud Em will rave about shortly.

The Forum also boasts a whole page of yummy-sounding pasta dishes. Take for instance the Parisian Seafood: shrimp, scallops and surimi crabmeat sauteed in butter with herbs and white wine, finished with cream sauce over fettuccini. Help! And it doesn't stop there, they have a bevy of burgers, sandwiches (Gyro or Reuben, anyone?), Tex-Mex items (fajitas, burritos and quesadillas), seafood, stir-fry, steak, chicken, chops and pizza.

The Buds munched on the delicious buttery breadsticks - which alone were worth the trip - while deliberating. Bud Em finally settled on the Authentic Greek Salad, as was mentioned previously. This was a huge salad platter of mixed greens topped with tomatoes, olives, pepperocinis, and a ton of Feta cheese AS WELL AS two pieces of Spanikopita (spinach pie), two Tyropita (three cheese in filo crust) and two dolmades (stuffed grape leaves) and their Special Greek Dressing. And the whole thing was just $7.59. Incredible! All of the ingredients were fresh and their special dressing was divine. The pastries were fabulous! So good in fact that Bud Em had to share some with Bud Shaunna. Best. Salad. Ever.

Bud Shaunna opted for another Forum specialty - Elvis Pork Chops. Thank you, thank you very much! Bad Elvis impersonations aside, two flavorful pork chops were marinated and seasoned with "Mama's" herbs and spices and charbroiled. The Forum claims you'll "love them tender" and they were right! These chops were so tender and juicy, and served with a side salad and mixed vegetables, Bud Shaunna loved the price too - a mere $7.79! And, the second pork chop tasted just as juicy and tender reheated for dinner later that night. Bud Shaunna would definitely order this again!

The Forum boasts the motto "Because life was meant to be enjoyed!" Well, the Buds certainly enjoyed their trip to the Forum, and we left with stars in our eyes and love in our hearts. Truth be told, just writing this column and reliving our meal is making us hungry. Excuse us, we're on our way back to the Forum for more!
