For the past few weeks, the Buds have been on a streak of Greek food and bakery items. And no, we're NOT complaining!
In fact, we could probably live on nothing but feta cheese, filo dough and cream horns and be perfectly happy. However, in the interest of diversity, we decided to switch things up a bit and go for a different cuisine. As luck would have it, an alert co-worker informed us of a brand new Mexican eatery nearby.
So, without having to dodge any border patrols or show passports to immigration officials, we hopped over to El Patron Mexican Restaurant in Moundsville for a little taste of food from south of the border.

Located at 2213 First Street, El Patron features real Mexican cuisine at reasonable prices.
Typical of most Mexican eateries, our table was quickly garnished with fresh made tortilla chips and some homemade salsa. Naturally, both items were delicious. The chips were crispy and not too salty and the salsa - one of the best we've had - was bursting with fresh taste. Be aware that one could easily fill up on the appetizer and spoil one's lunch!
Looking over the menu, we were once again reminded of our lack of ethnicity and our ignorance of the actual difference in menu items. (We have the same problem with Chinese menus.) The menu includes the typical Mexican fare of fajitas, enchiladas, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, chalupas and more. They also have an variety of house specials and a long list of hot and fast lunch combinations AND a "buffet" option where they will serve endless amounts of items from a select menu.
The Buds also noted that El Patron had a nice selection of salads and soups. Yep, a pleasant surprise! Grilled chicken, taco, Cancun and fajita salads as well as chicken tortilla soup, a Mexican bean soup and even a shrimp soup. They even have burgers and sandwiches for those who may want to stick with more American dishes.
Bud Em settled on one of the house specials - the Chimi Fajita with chicken as the choice of meat or seafood. Every bite was delicious! Strips of grilled chicken and sauteed onions, peppers and tomatoes were wrapped in a tortilla and deep fried until crisp then topped with their amazing cheese sauce, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream and guacamole. With sides of both rice and beans the bountiful meal rang in at just under ten bucks! Nothing was too spicy or salty and Bud Em will surely order this again.
Because it was a Friday, Bud Shaunna had to forego the meat option, but with a large selection of vegetari-
an and seafood items, this was not a difficult task! She immediately zeroed in on and ordered the spinach enchiladas. Four corn tortillas were stuffed with tender spinach and mushrooms, topped with enchilada sauce and served with a side of lettuce, sour cream and pico de gallo. And of course, Bud Shaunna cannot make a stop at a Mexican restaurant and not order a side of guacamole! Over all, the enchiladas were so tasty and after filling up on tortilla chips, salsa and guac, Bud Shaunna had to package up half her lunch to take home (FYI - they tasted fantastic reheated the next day for lunch). The enchiladas rang in at just under 9 bucks - definitely well worth what amounted to two meals!
