ST. CLAIRSVILLE - On Friday, volunteers from the St. Clairsville Elementary School Community Playground Committee commenced installing a new playground. Work began at 8 a.m. and was expected to continue until dark, with similar schedules the subsequent two days until completion this Sunday.
The project is in its third year and is funded entirely by community donations at no cost to the school. Gabe Hays, co-chair of the committee, asks voters to keep this in mind and remember the dire need of the school when considering the upcoming replacement levy. Funds will go toward work on the roof and on security issues.
Work on Friday began with 30 volunteers and is expected to increase to 60 during Saturday and Sunday.

The project includes installing a level pad and attaching new equipment.
The project has garnered about $200,000 in donations and in-kind. This will complete improvements to the playground that began last year. Two more fundraisers are set for the future, including a golf scramble May 18 at the Belmont Hills Country Club and a fundraiser for a memorial to children who have passed on, which will be held May 4 at Chap's restaurant.
