ST. CLAIRSVILLE The work of several local architects is on display in "The Art of Design: Architecture," an exhibit at the Ohio University Eastern Art Gallery through April 25. A public reception will be held on Thursday, April 4 from 7pm-9pm.

The exhibit is an attempt by the OUE Cultural Life and Diversity Committee, which oversees the Art Gallery, to broaden the gallery's mission and present a wider range of shows. According to committee chair Dr. Jim Casebolt, "We hope to have one show a year that features the "the art of design" theme. In fact, Ohio University as a whole is moving in this direction, as several design-oriented departments, including graphic design and interior architecture, have been moved into the School of Art."

"We felt architecture was a good place to start this series of shows, since architects use the vision and methods of art in creating their designs and communicating them to their customers," said Casebolt. "The goal of this show is to reveal the role of the methods and vision of art in the work of the architect, both structural and landscape. A number of firms are participating and we appreciate their help in creating an enriching educational experience for our students and the local community."

Participating architects and firms include William Hooker, AIA, Wheeling, WV; Adam Mull, AM Architecture, Triadelphia, WV; Breisch & Crowley, LLC, St. Clairsville, OH; Danny Popp, DDP & Associates, Shadyside, OH; Gabe Hays, Hays Landscape Architecture Studio, St. Clairsville, OH; McKinley & Associates, Wheeling, WV; Dennis Madama, Shaeffer and Madama Architects, St. Clairsville, OH; and Victor Greco, SMG Architects, Wheeling, WV;

"We are very appreciative of Ohio University Eastern for recognizing how art is an integral part of communicating landscape architecture and building architectural design," said Gabe Hays. "It is an honor to be in the company of so many great designers. I encourage anyone who is interested in the built environment, or may be interested in future building, to be inspired by the works displayed by our local designers and their art at OUE."

The Ohio University Eastern Art Gallery is open to the public and admission is free. The art gallery is located on the second floor of Shannon Hall.
