JENKINS, Gene, 87 of Colerain, died Sunday April 7, 2013 at Liza's Place Wheeling. He was born May 10, 1925 in Martins Ferry, a son of the late Frank E. and Edith L. (Cook) Jenkins.

From 1946 to November of 1980 he worked at Lorain Coal and Dock, Blaine; Y&O Coal St. Clairsvillle; and he retired from Valley Camp #3 in Tridelphia, WV. A veteran of WW II in the US Army he was discharged with the rank of First Sergeant of Company A, Third Infantry, Gene built more than 20 houses from the ground up, as his "avocation" or second job. Seems so little to say for someone who touched so may lives over his 87 years.

He married his loving wife Virginia R. (Betler) Jenkins on January 25, 1947, at Our Lady of Angels Church in Barton, after 60 years of marriage she preceded him on February 27, 2007. Also he was also preceded in death by sisters; Leoma Kolb, Dorothy DeVault, Elsie Finney, infant sister Edith Jacqueline Jenkins, and a half sister Wanda Babette, brothers; Mervin, and Frank Jenkins, two infant brothers, and half brother Jack Jenkins.

Gene is survived by two sons; Gary (Sherry) Jenkins of Mason Ohio, and Larry "Butch" (Debbie) Jenkins of Hilliard, Ohio, grandchildren Shannon, Justin, Courtney, and Erin, a brother George H. Jenkins of Colerain, and a sister Beverlee Smith of Whittier CA.

Friends are invited to a celebration of Gene's life on Wednesday April 10, 2013 from 5-8 pm at Wilson Funeral Home 920 National Road Brookside, where services will be held on Thursday at 11 am, interment will be at Holly Memorial Gardens Pleasant Grove. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the donors' choice.
