ST. CLAIRSVILLE - Selecting a college or university to attend can be a long-and-drawn-out process for a high school senior.

Not for Falon Weidman.

There were two factors in the St. Clairsville senior soccer standout choosing Wheeling Jesuit University to continue her academic and athletic careers.

"I really like the coach (Carrie Hanna). She was a lot of help in getting me to Wheeling Jesuit. And since I'm Catholic, I really like Jesuit atmosphere.

"I believe Wheeling Jesuit has what I'm looking forward to majoring in." That would be history and international culture," she disclosed.

Weidman was a 4-year veteran for Coach Scott Dutton's Lady Red Devils. She was named the team MVP this past season after earning all-OVAC and all-Eastern District honors. She is also planning on playing in the OVAC All-Star Game, as well.

"Playing in the District All-Star game was fun," she admitted.

Going from the high school level to the collegiate level is a big step in any sport.

"I'll have to work on my 1-on-1 skills a lot more because I wasn't really called upon to use them a lot in high school," she added. "I will also have to increase my endurance to play at the next level."

Weidman decided on WJU over Waynesburg University, John Carroll University and Case Western University.

Does she have a fond memory of her high school career?

"Getting to play my senior season with my two younger sisters was fun. It was a treat to be able to do that," she admitted.

Weidmnan also credits Coach Dutton for helping her in her college decision-making.

"Coach Dutton really helped me a lot in being recruited to college because he had already been through that process with his daughter," she said.
