BOSTON - A handful of local runners took part in the Boston Marathon today and a few have already been confirmed safe via text messages and Twitter.
Times Leader Sports Editor Seth Staskey confirmed with Bellaire St. John cross country coach that two of his former runners, Nick Habursky and Kristen Heilmeier are ok and safe.
Sean Flanagan from Wheeling posted to his Twitter feed that he and his group are safe and in the hotel.
Staskey also learned through texting with West Liberty cross country coach Eric Laughlin is ok.
Lauhlin explained he was less than 1,000 meters from the blast when it happened and stated that "When it happened, everyone just took off running ... it was chaos."
