Prep Softball Roundup: Home runs spark Bellaire by Trail

ST. JOE - Bellaire tuned up for its OVAC Class 3A playoff semifinal with a 10-4 victory over visiting Buckeye Trail Monday afternoon in softball action on the Bellaire Middle School diamond.

Megan Ging hit a 2-run homer and Mackenzie Conroy ripped a solo blast in the fourth inning for the Big Reds (16-2). It was Ging's third roundtripper and Conroy's fourth. Both added a single and finished with two RBI each.

Taylar Canter drove in two runs with a pair of base knocks. Dallas Messenger also singled twice.

Ging fanned six and walked one in scattering five hits.

Bellaire, the No. 2 seed, faces third-seeded Shenandoah tonight at 6:45 at the J.B. Chambers I-470 Complex in Elm Grove.

Harrison Central 7, Buckeye Local 1

At Cadiz, the Huskies (11-4) earned a regular-season sweep of their Buckeye 8 rival Panthers (7-8) with the win at Sally Buffalo Park.

Kara Dunfee, Kiley Staley and Roni Caldwell all delivered run-scoring base hits for Harrison Central.

Katie Ellzy struck out five and walked one in tossing a 3-hitter.

Pinch-hitter Rachel Hoagland had a home run in the seventh for Buckeye Local's lone run. Aliyah Marelli had two singles.

Both teams play Wednesday in OVAC Class 4A semifinals. Harrison Central meets St. Clairsville and Buckeye Local faces Martins Ferry.

Barnesville 4, Shenandoah 3

At Barnesville, Marrissa Burga tripled in the bottom of the sixth inning and raced home with the winning run when the throw got away as the Shamrocks (11-7) squeaked past the Zeps (9-8) on the Memorial Park field.

Burga also singled, while Paige Gibbons tripled and Blair Thompson doubled.

Barnesville travels to caldwell Wednesday. Shenandoah plays Bellaire tonight in the OVAC playoffs.

Steubenville Central 8, Union Local 3

At Steubenville, the Crusaders (14-3) scored twice in the first, third, fourth and sixth frames in rolling past the visiting Jets (9-11).

Olivia Minamyer and Ali Delaney each doubled for UL.

Cameron 7, Bridgeport 3

At Cameron, Linda Hall struck out 10 and scattered two hits in the circle, then belted a home run and drove in two at the plate as she led Cameron past Bridgeport, 7-3 in prep softball action Monday.

Ashley Berardi tripled among two hits and drove in two runs, while Bailey Wood and Natalie Trowbridge each singled and drove in a run for the Dragons (14-5). Lexi Aston also had an RBI.

Emily Nowakowski singled and drove in all three runs for the Bulldogs.
