Prep Baseball Roundup: Martins Ferry stays hot; HC rolls past UL

STEUBENVILLE - Lucas Lloyd scattered seven hits and struck out five as Martins Ferry (14-11) upended OVAC Class 2A champion Steubenville Central Monday afternoon at Vaccaro Field.

Marcus Sutton drove in three runs for the Purple Riders with two singles and a double. TJ Jacob added an RBI single and Ethan Baire singled twice.

Martins Ferry, which is riding a 5-game winning streak, is idle until Saturday's Division III sectional tournament game against Monroe Central at Cambridge's Don Coss Field.

The Crusaders fell to 13-6.

Harrison Central 13, Union Local 1

At Morristown, the Huskies (17-5) showed no hangover following their OVAC Class 4A championship Saturday by blowing out the host Jets (6-18).

Dustin Redish and Zach Arbogast teamed on a 2-hitter as Redish fanned four and walked five in six innings. Arbogast had one K.

Rashaen Mitchell singled twice and also tripled two times to drive in three runs to lead Harrison Central's 17-hit attack. Dalton Rutter had two singles and a double that knocked in a run. Drew Horn plated three runs with a single and double, while Austin Kowalski slapped three singles.

Austin Curry had a double for Union Local, which hosts Steubenville today. The Huskies travel to Strasburg.

Barnesville 9, Shenandoah 6

At Barnesville, the hosts (11-11) reached the .500 mark with their win over the visiting Zeps at Memorial Park.

David Brown, who picked up the mound win in relief, stroked three singles. Auston Hannahs, Dylan MacMillan and Mitchell Wells all had two singles for Barnesville.

The Shamrocks play at St. Clairsville today.

Shadyside 7, Buckeye Local 6

CONNORVILLE - Shadyside scored five runs in the fourth inning and made it hold up in besting Buckeye Local.

Cody Hudson, Austin Dorris, Luke Nardo and Jared Brooks all had two singles for the Tigers.

Eric Banal and Shane Duncan had two hits for the Panthers.
