Necessary Aroma is just one of several craft shops that will open in the Powhatan Craft Mall. The Powhatan Craft Mall will be housed in the former Powhatan Elementary School, which is now owned by the Powhatan Point Revitalization Association.

"I had heard they were going to open a craft shop in here and I had called to inquire about renting a room," said Necessary. "Somehow I was talked into (running it)."

The regular operation hours for the Craft Mall will be Thursday through Sunday; noon to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Also, there will be Fitness Center which will have Zumba classes offered on Sundays from 7 to 8 p.m. and Richard Simons Sweating to the Oldies. The Zumba classes will start on June 2 and will be taught by Kelly Brown.

Triforce Photo, which offers studio portraits both inside and outside shots, is also housed in the same space.

Among other things, they will offer bingo as well. They also have other spaces open for any interested parties.

There are also plans to have a Powhatan Museum as well as a Native American and oil, gas and coal museum.

"It's bitter - sweet, I went kindergarten through eighth grade here before I went to River," said Necessary. "I walk downstairs to what use to be my kindergarten room and I can see the sandbox sitting in the middle of the floor."
