St. John Central's Hannah Absalom has picked up a couple of postseason softball awards.
The Irish junior was selected as the Division IV Eastern District Player of the Year and first-team all state.
She led the Ohio Valley with 25 victories inside the circle as St. John Central reached the Division IV District Championship game before falling to eventual state champ, Strasburg, 1-0, in eight innings.
Absalom compiled a microscopic 0.57 ERA and struck out an eye-popping 338 batters in just 175 innings of work. Her strikeouts were also an OV best. She fired half-a-dozen no-hitters and a pair of perfect games.
At the plate, she hit a whopping .406 with 40 hits. Half of those safeties were doubles, which paced all OV players. She also clubbed five triples and one home run, which was a grand slam. She drove in 40 runs and had an on-base percentage of .544. She also found time to steal 10 bases.
Irish head coach Jerry Magistro was honored as a Co-Coach of the Year with Strasburg's Bud Weisgarber.
During the season, Magistro picked up his 250th career victory. His Irish also claimed the OVAC Class 1A regular season and tournament titles, along with a co-sectional crown.
River's Haylee Bowers and Shadyside's Megan Heagney were named to the second team.
Bellaire's Megan Ging made the Division III second team, while St. Clairsville's Lauren Figura was an honorable mention selection.
