Harrison County adds new assistant prosecutor

CADIZ?-- Harrison County Prosecutor Michael Washington announced to the board of commissioners the hiring of a new assistant prosecutor. Stephanie Russell-Ramos will fill the spot vacated by Washington when he was appointed by the Republican Central Committee as Prosecutor.

A graduate of the University of Akron school of law, Russell-Ramos has been practicing law for two years and is looking forward to serving the citizens of Harrison County.

Washington also announced the addition of Kyra Brooks as his new office manager. "Kyra is a paralegal and we feel she will help bring the office together and help make us more efficient."

The prosecutor also announced that, contrary to prior reports,t his office will be contracting with the Harrison County Department of Job and Family Services (DJFS) Children's Services Division to provided legal representation.

"Prior to the end of August when the contract with Tuscarawas County is up we will have a formalized full year contract," said Washington.

"I do apologize for any confusion," said DJFS Director Scott Blackburn, "Things are covered and I think it will work much better this way."

Commission chair Don Bethel stated that he was pleased the two parties were able to come to an agreement.

Blackburn also asked the board to accept the resignation of longtime department employee Jackie Corder.

The board also approved Resolution 15-13 which places the renewal levy for Children's Services on the November ballot. The renewal of the current one-half mill levy would run for a period of 5 years.

In other business:

Doug Crabtree of the Engineer's Office asked the board to accept the bid from Lash Paving of $239,806 for the CR 14 paving.

The board also met with Joy Taggart of the County Home in executive session to discuss personnel issues. No action was taken.

The board appropriated $50,000 into commissioners A 315-13.
